A Scottish Venture

Add a comment! A change is as good as a rest, or so they say so the chance to run through some Scottish hills, rather than Brislington, was just what I needed.
I took the family up to Aviemore for the half term week and had the best time skiing. I know its not the Alps but it was skiing in the UK and it was fab. Some easy beginner runs for the kids to learn, and something a little harder for us adults with poor skiing ability. We managed to avoid the hordes by taking the quieter option of skiing at The Lecht.
I also couldn’t miss the opportunity to squeeze in a run. The Scottish countryside is truly special and when its not raining its probably one of the best places to be in the UK. Well that’s how I felt when I went for my run.
I left the kids with hubby while I ventured into the Aviemore forests running up towards the Cairngorm. My 8km run was inspiring. It was pretty flat with a gradual incline.
I was tempted to plug in my ipod but then I thought, blow to that, soak up the atmosphere of this place. All I could hear was the sound of the nearby river and the wind blowing thorough the trees. It was actually pretty windy so I was pleased to be in the forest. It felt great and I was smiling all the way. A couple of groups of mountain bikers passed by waving a pleasant hello as they went.
Now I’m back in Bristol and my motivation is up. Early morning run tomorrow. I know its not Scotland but if I get bored I’ll dream about the mountains of the highlands. A change is definitely as good as a rest. Well, I’ll let you know. And if anyone fancies a cheap skiing holiday get up to Scotland while the snow is still there.
