OK! April races are up to date.

Yes, actual April 2013 runing races around Bristol are up to date and good to go.

Bristol Runing Resource has some new helpers so we’re going to see if we can reinvigorate things. Next up, May races, and the weekly reminder list for April coming soon…

Time to race

Well I took last weekend off, I needed to I was shot after 10 consecutive days of exercise totalling 140 miles on the bike and 55 miles running. I commuted in and out of work yesterday to loosen my legs ready to race tonight.

I have decided that I need to enter a race (that I know) to judge where I am in terms of speed and fitness. So I am off to the Bridge Inn 5k tonight. I can’t remember when I last did the Bridge or even what my course PB was, but neither of those matter tonight. Tonight as I say is all about running to take stock of my progress this year, I know its going to hurt, I know at about 3.5k I will be questioning why I decided to race, but I also know that no matter what time I get back in, I have raced and I will thoroughly enjoy it, knowing that I am back running where I like to be…. in a race!!

Enjoying it again

That’s another week of training done, two weeks in a row, this must be a record for me!!!

The cycle into work today means that I have done 7 consecutive days of training, and if I knew how much the bike work is helping I would have done it years ago and as the week progressed I found something that I had totally forgot about, that being the joy of running. I have decided to stay away from any form of speed training this week in an attempt to build up my base fitness, my week panned out as follows

Tuesday - 20 miles cycle

Wednesday - 20 mile cycle + 4.5 mile easy run

Thursday - 20 mile cycle = 5 mile steady run

Friday - 20 mile cycle

Saturday - 6.5 mile steady run

Sunday - 6 mile steady run

Today - 20 mile cycle.

I am hoping that with a bit of caution over the next week, I might be able to compete (ok run in…. ok turn and do) the Bridge Inn 5k.

Giving some shape to the running year

It used to be so simple. For several years my running year had a clear shape. It was a tale of two cities. The Bath Half at Easter; the Bristol Half in September. Twin Peaks. Finish one Half and have a few weeks relatively easy running to recover. Then restart the process of building up for the next Half. A few shorter races sprinkled around helped to leaven the mix.

Then it all lost its shape, partly as a result of injury and partly because, if I’m honest, I decided I’d run Bath as many times as I wanted to.

Having trundled around Bristol last September, for the first time in three years, I took a while to recover. I’ve spent the last couple of months running quite a few miles and kept the long run at about 8 miles. But I’ve realised that it’s all gone a bit shapeless. It’s too late to enter Bath, even if I wanted to. So I’m on the look out for an alternative to give things a bit of focus.

Anyone like to suggest another local Half, taking place around Easter or a bit later, that’s worth checking out?
