Losing myself

Long run accomplished - but it was a bit of a frustrating one. The last long run I did was with Matt about 10 days ago, when we did 70 mins - but very slowly, I just wasn’t feeling it. So today’s plan as to do 70 mins at a decent pace. And when we were up in the Purdown/Stoke Park area, I had seen someone running along a track lower down and so today I wanted to see if I could find where that started, to work out a loop to do instead of the there-and-back route I do at the moment.

You might think that the obvious thing for me to have done would have been to go up to Purdown as usual, then hit the lower track, and see where it took me. But for some reason I decided it would be best to try and find it from the other side. So I had a nice run down through the allotments (past two guys who are always there it seems when I am out running, tending their crops) and instead of going straight up into the fields I ran down Muller Road and on a bit of a mission. The road I had hoped to find a path at the end of turned out to be a dead end. Rubbish - I wasn’t really sure where to go from there.

I had a little scoot around, down some other roads and down a little forest track, where I got attacked by stinging nettles, and then realised it was about time to be turning back home, so gave up. In the end, it was an ok run, I only did 9.5km but there were lots of hills involved. Job done (ish). I rewarded myself by baking some amazing choc chip and pecan cookies and hitting the pub (if only for a few fruit juices) and then went for my monthly sports massage - which unfortunately was on the extremely painful end of the spectrum rather than the dozing off and relaxing end.
