Running From Zombies

We’re all guilty of those lazy runs where we don’t really push ourselves, when you just trundle along, not developing a sweat.  On Friday Night I ran the hardest I have ever ran in my life, not because I was doing sprint training or I was taking part in a particularly difficult race, but because I was being chased by Zombies through the streets of Bristol.

Over the course of the Bank Holiday Weekend Bristol hosted IGfest in partner ship with Bristol City Council.  2.8 Hours Later is a city wide zombie chase game and is the jewel in the crown of the festival.

You’re probably thinking that sounds rather pathetic, I can honestly tell you it was one of the most horrific and yet exhilarating events of my life.  Within 3 minutes of starting our team was sprinting down Corn Street chased by two very fast zombies, with some particularly scary moments set in a church and The Galleries my heart was pounding the whole time.

My team survived (in fact we were the first team for everyone to survive); how?  It’s simple we were running to survive, running from the sound of a howling zombie, there was no slacking here, you knew it was a game, but you also didn’t want the uber-realistic zombie to get you.

So, do we run to get a new P.B., lose weight or it is so we can sleep soundly at night knowing that if and when the zombie apocalypse happens you’ll be able to outrun the hordes of the undead?  After Fridays events I think it might be the latter.
