The Road Is Long

Add a comment! With many a winding turn! I should be going to Edinburgh this weekend to run their Marathon, but something personal has come up, and I won’t be getting there.
With all these excellent positive posts I don’t want to change the mood, I’ve bared my soul enough on this page!
However, I’m disappointed not to be able to go, and more disappointed my Wife and I are unable to defer our entries to next Year, I think that’s harsh but it’s happened to us before so we know the rules, on the eve of flying up two years ago we lost Tina’s Father suddenly, with that sad loss we weren’t up to running, I know others who have run through immediate grief, but we’ve done that too in our past, and there are some times when it’s time for peace and respect. Thankfully we haven’t suffered anything like that this time, but it seems fated that we’ll never run this race.
Running is free? Sometimes I question that, the rising price of race entries could be a whole blog in itself, and we’ve lost it again this time, thankfully I was able to recoup the £180 hotel costs. Flight-wise, last time I transferred our flights to Amsterdam Marathon, at a cost, this time the transfer costs are so prohibitive I’ve lost them too, but the replacement Marathon is lined up and entered anyway, Loch Ness will be our joint Marathon attempt this year.
Touching on this it does give you an idea of what entering several ‘Foreign’ races a year can cost, you are getting into Family Holiday expense, and this does need to be borne in mind, I know I need a re-think on that front.
Running wise I’ve been ticking along, the stamina is there, and I’m just looking forward now to a summer of shorter races, aiming to continue to lose weight and get my speed back, it does trouble me that I’ve lost an hour on my Marathon time in the last 18 months so I will continue the path I’ve started on again, there is still much to run and see where the road takes me this time.
