I must admit it has taken a little while to write this, I thought last years Olympics was something special with Usain Blot winning Olympic Gold in a time of 9.69, but this evening I am totally dumb struck what a performance by Jessica Ennis 7 disciplines in two days, wow how the hell can you train to do that let alone train to win the World Championships and at such a young age as well, well done Jessica… oh yeh and that Bolt fellow won gold in the 100m in a time of 9.58, not bad really is it!!!!
To today’s race, I turned up with 3/4 of an hour to go to the race, tried to warm up but that was a struggle my training over the week had taken a lot out of them. This was not good and started to make me think that I might be in for a shock. We got to the start line and I attempted a few strides and stretches, still not brilliant, but hey I was at the start line I might as well give it a go, and that is what I did give it a go, 3 and a bit laps of the track, I must admit this is the fourth time I have ran this race, and this must have been the windiest that it has been especially down the back straight.
But I went through the race my quads burning from the first k onwards, I came home in sixth place overall, in a time of, wait for it, I have just said my legs were that tired I couldn’t warm up properly… I came home in a time of 35:00, at last a new 10k PB, yes not the 34 min figure I so desperately want but as good as, none of the other front runners were even near a pb, so what a result just think of the time if I had tapered properly and made it a key race.
My exerts didn’t stop there, I got home rested for a couple of hours and then ran from Thornbury to Wickwar (6+ miles), I must admit I hated the first mile, but after that I was running very relaxed but striding out, and completed the run in under 40 mins.
Considering I was struggling this morning I am now extremely happy with my running to today and am so enthusiastic about this weeks training sessions.
