I'm Back!!!

Where have you been you may ask.

After the birth of our daughter Amber on News Years Day I made attempts to carry on with my training and yes one I would manage a run but the next day I would not. Some due to family reasons others because of work but mainly I have been living on 4 hours sleep a night. Yes I don’t need much sleep anyway but I decided it wasn’t worth the risk of getting injured or making myself ill, so I took a few months off.

Now things are settling down I feel I can start training again. Last Friday was my first effort and I stupidly decided to do a 6 mile loop around Thornbury, bad decision partly due to the strong winds but also my lack of fitness. But I got round eventually, after a couple of stops.

I ran on both days over the weekend this time doing 4 miles each day. Monday I went round a boggy BAWA field and got in 4 miles again. Tuesday I thought I would try some speed out so did a pyramid session which consisted of:

  • 2 mins effort (5:30 - 5:40 pace) 1 min rest
  • 3 mins effort - 1 1/2 min rest
  • 4 min effort - 2 min rest
  • 5 min effort- 2 min effort
  • 4 min effort - 2 min rest
  • 3 mins effort - 1 1/2 min rest
  • 2 mins effort

It was a struggle and I have to admit I didn’t stick to the rest times but I did complete the efforts.

Wednesday, work commitments meant that I took a days rest, and followed that with a 7 mile run this lunchtime in 46 mins, so it looks like I am getting back to some sort of speed.

Tomorrow is a day off as I plan to join the B&W team for the Gloucester Road Relays.
