Running to the Limits

I posted before about Alex Vero and his transformation from overweight smoker to 73 minute half marathoner.

His documentary, Running to the Limits, which investigates what it takes to become an international runner, was recently on Channel 4 and for the next 11 days you can watch it on 4oD.

It’s well worth watching and features interviews with Ron Hill, Richard Nerurkar, Haile Gebrselassie and Bruce Tulloh.

As well as documenting Vero’s own efforts to run an Olympic qualifying time, he also follows the progress of British 2:21 marathoner Ben Moreau and a young Ethiopian runner, Mengitsu Abebe.

As a final bonus for Bristol runners the programme includes coverage of the 2008 Bristol Half Marathon, with cameos from a few Bristol & West runners!

Hey Steve, thanks for steering this my and everyones way, an inspirational film, had a personal resonance for me for starters being a Bristolian and seeing our fine race there but also having run those Lanzarote and Amsterdam races myself, along with meeting great people like Bruce Tulloh.
It's a real conundrum as to why Marathon times have declined (Paula aside) in this country despite a much bigger take up over the same period, isn't it a theory that the more participation you get the more chance you have of finding a diamond in the rough?
I don't know, I am but a humble plodder, but enjoy reading your statistical analysis all the same.
Running is the key....

Great story, I find this more interesting due to the fact that I as of this year have just given up smoking & am on a good plan to lose weight with regular exercise ( running ) & eating more sensible. I have been & got my running shoes & am already feeling the benefits of a more healthier life style. Running the countryside has all it's own benefits beside the obvious. Thanks for the informative posts.
