Fun runs

Apart from the lost key incident, the running has been going very well recently. I am now up to 50 minutes running, which best mate Sophie said “is more than most ‘normal’ people can run”, and about 20 minutes of that on harder surfaces.

I have been doing lots of interval type training – either 10 minutes easy, 15 minutes faster than steady pace, 10 minutes easy, or 10 minutes easy, then 10 two-minute sprints with a one-minute jog in between. I’m feeling good for it, and looking forward to trying a steady 50 minute run to see how far I go.

Two weeks to go until the Bristol 10k – I feel like it could be just within my reach. Fitness will be fine, as long as it doesn’t take me too much longer than an hour, it’s just how the knees will hold out on a harder surface for all that time.

I’ve also had one really good, feel-good run recently – the type of run which makes all the hard-slog ones worth putting up with. I hadn’t had one like that for ages, and was starting to wonder why I used to like running so much, but it brought it all back.

Some good music, a nice spring evening, a perfect amount of energy – yes please. More runs like that would be good.

More of Emily here.
