Informative, enjoyable and alcoholic!
I celebrated my 10th “runniversary” this year, the day before my 60th birthday, and decided to raise £6000 to mark the occasion. My friend and colleague, Darren Gordon, a good runner, had chosen Marie Curie Cancer Care as his charity but later asked for donations to be given to the Macmillan Palliative Care Unit at Frenchay Hospital which is where he died in September.
Rather than a straightforward “give me some money, please” I’m asking people to guess how many miles my running vest will do (see www.justgiving.com/jansbigbirthdaycelebration) but also trying other ways to raise the money.
I’m looking forward to the next: a wine-tasting at 7.30pm on December 4th at the cinema in the David Lloyd Leisure Club in Westbury-on-Trym. It will be led by Emma, Waitrose’s wine expert (and a runner), who will talk about the wines and guide you through choosing wines for Christmas, as well as letting you drink them! Tickets are £10 in advance, available by contacting me on 0117 9509235 or by calling in at Sweatshop in the David Lloyd Club.
All the wine has been kindly donated by Waitrose so all the money raised will benefit the Palliative Care Unit. What more could you want: you will learn something, have a pleasant evening with others who share your interests, drink some wine and raise money for a good cause.
I hope you can join me.
Happy running - and drinking!
