Closer to the Countryside

I’ve just added a new link to the bottom of the websites page - it’s called “Closer to the Countryside”. It’s more on the esoteric side of running, which is no bad thing. More to the point, it’s about appreciating that Bristol is full of off-road byways that can be explored by (wait for it) walking and running out of our doors, leaving the car keys behind!

I’m always struck by how unaware people are of how easy it is to get around this city without using the roads. I live 200 metres from Gloucester Road, probably half a mile from the city centre, and I can get out of Bristol by using perhaps just 300 metres of road. Allotments, parks, paths and cycleways are everywhere and if only more people appreciated it, perhaps we wouldn’t have to all slog round the downs together, or drive out to the Forest of Dean so often.

OK, maybe I’m getting a bit rightious, but what do you think? Leave a comment, visit the site, buy the book.

Thanks for the plug. I hadn't realised I had become esoteric in my old age! I suppose being a teenager in the 60s I have come to think of the esoteric as normal! I think of what I do as getting off-road as much as possible - its better for the joints and opens up the mind. But then you know that already by the sound of it.
